Detecting Flu in Older Adults

Flu in elderly can be a serious illness and may lead to complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia. That is why it is imperative to detect flu as early as possible.

So, how can we tell if our elderly has flu? Symptoms are pretty much the same as in other age groups, which may include the following:

  • High temperature
  • Headache
  • Tiredness and fatigue that can last two or three weeks
  • Extreme exhaustion which usually happens at the start of flu symptoms
  • Severe aches and body pain
  • Common chest discomfort and cough which can become severe
  • Sore throat
  • Runny or stuffy nose

Should your elderly love one exhibit any of the symptoms above, it is important to seek medical advice immediately to avoid further complications.
